The handmade Traditional Kilt should always be made with a minimum of eight stitches to the inch. Deep pleats are essential to gain the correct 'swing' to the kilt and there can be no better lining than canvas. Three buckles are recommended for the best fit but we will always make the kilt with two if we are requested to do so.
Beyond this, it is quite hard to find a way of bettering a kilt that is being made from top quality worsted kilting fabric, but there are in fact ways of improving it.
Firstly, we have added our own straps which are higher quality leather. They also have our own copyrighted Celtic knotwork strap design.
Secondly, our kiltmakers take a little longer to make our kilts because they pull the fabric into place between each and every stitch in order to avoid the 'kick-pleat' at the left-hand side of the kilt apron. This is the hallmark of an extremely well tailored kilt.
Beyond that, all we can offer you is platinum, hand engraved buckles with your own design and stones of choice embedded in them, which indeed we can do for you.
As a rule of thumb, a Mediumweight Kilt is the most recommended. A Heavyweight Kilt will swing beautifully but can be inconvenient on a hot day or in a warmer climate. However, if this makes no difference to you then it cannot be bettered.
