The intensive research by D C Dalgliesh Ltd into the colour sett and weave of a 200 year old piece of tartan cloth that was found by a peat gatherer on Culloden Moor in 1946 lead to the creation of this magnificent selection of tartans.
Woven in pure wool there are 42 Tartans in stock. Authentic in colour and design to those worn in 1746 and before these tartans offer a soft muted effect entirely reminiscent of the days when vegetable sources such as lichen moss and alder bark provided the dyer with his raw materials.
Today this highly emotive piece of cloth often known as ‘The Culloden Artefact’ remains in the care of The Lochcarron Museum. It is believed to be a MacDonald tartan.
